SOUND OF THE NORTH

Banner - Sound of the North

A vibrant Canadian band performing a great mix of melodic music

"...they've got the rhythm and above all, they've got the feeling"

Ever since an impromptu performance in October of 2002,
this group has created a pleasant buzz around the north country of
British Columbia.
Delighting audiences of all ages, but particularly the
more mature crowd, Sound of the North has enjoyed playing for
dances, music festivals, community events and private functions
around the Northwest.

Pleasing the crowd with their rich array of musical offerings,
Don, Beth, Heidi & Jim
are experienced musicians featuring highly
energetic guitar picking, spirited
accordion, lots of strong, expressive
vocals with smooth harmonies,
the soulful wail of the harmonica,
and the solid, satisfying beat of the bass.
From rousing polkas and
romantic waltzes to melodic ballads and swingy blues,
they touch the
heart and soul of many a listener.

Their different backgrounds and songwriting brings a refreshing variety
to their repertoire. Heidi's original folk style songs reveal her heartfelt
love for the north country, while Beth's songwriting often reflects
her concern for social issues. Don's instrumental compositions
are mostly nature inspired, particulaly by the eagles he loves
to observe. Sharing stories of how some of their songs have come
about adds real depth at their concert presentations.

Hard to compare, SOUND OF THE NORTH is a one-of-a-kind
band whose members shape their creative energies into a sound and
feeling uniquely their own, often referred to as 'smooth and classy',
but also 'down to earth' and 'real'. Thriving on variety, they play a
range of styles encompassing Original Folk, Traditional Old-Time &
Country, some Swing & Blues, smoothly blended with an International
flavour of European Popular, Latin & Celtic. Their combination of original
tunes, sprinkled with well-known favourites, keeps the audience
relaxed, feeling good, and forever wondering 'What's next'?

The group celebrated the release of their first CD in November 2003
to a standing-room-only full house at Artspace in Prince George.

In January 2005 they arranged and hosted a 6 band Tsunami Benefit Concert
in the Prince George Playhouse, raising almost $4000 for the Red Cross.

All Sound of the North members are at home in the beautiful
north country of British Columbia, Canada, a place that has been the source
of inspiration for many of their songs, and when they are not playing
music you will probably find them out hiking in the wilderness they love.
